Undergraduate Research

Students in art, design, music, dance and theatre start creating their art forms from the first day in their programs. The root of pedagogy in the arts is problem solving and creative expression.  Undergraduate students conduct research everywhere in the arts campus.

The methods of creating original works of art involve analysis, experimentation, critiquing, reflection, inspiration and synthesis. These are some of the components of research in the arts.

The creative and scholarly research developed by the students can be seen in galleries and theatres locally, at conferences or festivals internationally, and in service-based community activity.

Research in the arts can:

  • investigate an artist’s work in context of a social and political continuum
  • develop dance, music or art based on formal, visual concerns
  • examine the human condition through storytelling or image making
  • demand a response in the viewer by confronting social issues
  • create personal views of beauty that enrich the human spirit
