Maria Palazzi is the Director of the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and Associate Professor of Design at The Ohio State University.
She is also the project leader and founder of ACCAD's annual summer program Digital Animation: A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women
which has received support from sponsors such as The Women’s Fund, Fifth/Third Bank and Dreamworks Animation SKG. Her interest in mentoring women in technology
grew out of her experiences in production and education in which women are under-represented as animators and students of animation.
At ACCAD Palazzi leads research and curriculum development in the areas of technology and the arts. The Center provides OSU faculty and graduate students with access to advanced
technology, computer graphics, visualization, motion studies and animation to support instruction and research in both the arts and the sciences. Palazzi's recent collaborative projects include the IMLS funded Jane, Diary of a Dinosaur with the Burpee Museum of Natural History, Rockford, IL which was awarded the American Association of Museum's 2006 Excellence in Exhibition Award and Synchronous Objects for One Flat Thing, reproduced with renown choreographer William Forsythe and Professor Norah Zuniga Shaw of the OSU Department of Dance.
Palazzi received her Masters Degree in Art Education, specializing in Computer Animation, and a BSID in Visual Communication Design from The Ohio State University.
From 1983 to 1987 she was a senior animator and director for Cranston/Csuri Productions, a pioneer in commercial applications of computer animation. Palazzi's
commercial work has been nominated for awards from Clio, and screened at ACM SIGGRAPH and international film festivals.
