Ways of Knowing Water Artists' Talk


Join us for a lively exchange of ideas and insights among artists in the exhibition whose work reveals deep understanding of water as place or as alchemical element, or as a vehicle of memory that carries the viewer one step closer to the life of central Ohio’s rivers.

Screen Works: The Wonderful World of Dogs


See a women whose Chihuahua is carried off by a hungry pelican...and a dog with a sixth sense... The Wonderful World of Dogs explores the myths, obsessions and wide variety of attitudes people harbor about our four-legged friends by introducing a few of the barkers, bullies and roamers that make up the canine population.

Get With the Flow...Find Out How!


Learn from those who know! Representatives from MORPC (Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission), and local watershed organizations such as FLOW (Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed), FACT (Friends of Alum Creek & Tributaries), and other groups who work to protect our waters will be on hand to discuss creating a more river-friendly, greener Columbus. Become a river steward!

Word Works with Michael Rosen Why we Love the Dogs we Love


Hear a reading by Michael J. Rosen, author of many books about our canine companions, including a new collection of heartfelt essays, Dogs We Love, by Edward Albee, Ann Beattie, Armistead Maupin, Jane Smiley and 14 other great writers. Bring a picture of your dog, and Michael can do a quick portrait of your companion in a copy of the book with purchase.

Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working with Time
(2001 - 90 mins.)


Renowned environmental sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy, works solely with the materials and elements of nature—wind, water, stones, ice, leaves—to produce art of exquisite beauty. Director Thomas Riedelsheimer follows Goldsworthy for more than a year as he collaborates with the “energy, breathlessness and uncertainty” of nature.

If you liked Ernie, you'll love Bob! Come meet Tony Mendoza, renowned photographer and author of Ernie: A Photographer's Memoir, as he reveals his new book about his dog, Bob. Get a sneak peak of images from Bob to be released early 2009. Not only will you get to see Tony's work but he'll give you insider tips on how to snap the best shots of your beloved pets. Guest appearance by Bob himself! Bob will be joined by his friends from the Franklin County Animal Shelter who are looking for "furever" home.

Special Dog Adoption Event

Round out our Dog Days of August with a dog event starring real dogs. You've seen them, you know them and you love them; now adopt one—or at least take a look! Join us for an adoption event and give a dog a "furever" home. Dogs available for adoption from the Franklin County Dog Shelter

When Art Builds Bridges: Art, Environment, and Community


Reconnecting the natural and the built environment is an essential part of creating a sustainable future. Join in a community dialogue and brainstorming session—with artists, architects, educators, designers, scientists, arts and water advocates/activists and Ways of Knowing Water co-curators Rick Livingston and Prudence Gill—about the place of art and river ecology in the reinvention of civic identity.
